Kitchen Party! Part II

In my previous post, Kitchen Party, I wrote about specific products to buy to enhance stay-at-home joy. Before adding more items to that list, I’d like to discuss the value of being happy, especially in these trying times.

Did you know that the phrase “Laughter is the best medicine” is substantiated by scientific findings? According to the Mayo Clinic, laughing:

  • Enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air (not sure how that works with a mask on though…)
  • Stimulates your heart, lungs, and muscles and the release of endorphins in your brain.
  • Increases and then decreases heart rate and blood pressure, which creates a good, relaxed feeling.
  • Reduces some of the physical symptoms of stress by stimulating circulation and aiding muscle relaxation.

Based on these facts, why not shift some of the money you are spending on Clorox wipes and latex gloves to get some new immune-boosting, fun-filled appliances for you and your loved ones?

Mouths Agape. Did You Say Crepe?

It is said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I’m going to change that to: breakfast with a smile is the most important meal of the day. The MegaChef Round Stainless Steel Crepe and Pancake Maker can make that aim a reality, especially when you create crepes filled with fresh fruits, yogurt, or even sweetened creme cheese. The Megachef is $32 and has earned 4 1/2 stars on Amazon. It has a 12″plate with a wide range of temperature settings and its non-stick surface allows for easy flipping and cleaning. This item also comes with a wooden batter trowel and a small spatula.

Since I’m not a fan of non-stick surfaces, I did some scouting around and found this stainless steel crepe maker. The only problem is that it is significantly more money. What you’ll get by spending $390 on the Waring Heavy-Duty Electric Crepe Maker is a commercial quality product with a 16″ pan. The Waring has heat resistant handles, is easy to use and to clean, plus it has an adjustable thermostat and cooks all types of batters quickly and evenly. The ready indicator lights will alert you when the surface has reached the set temperature. A stainless steel batter spreader and spatula are included. Usually, when you spend a significant amount of money on something, you cherish the product more and appreciate the high-quality features for many years. On that note as well, this has my vote.

Pass on Bikinis, Go Paninis

When I was a kid, I came home one day from the neighbor’s house all excited about their fancy grill-cheese-maker. My parents got a huge kick out of my delight and rave reviews. We never did get one of our own, but today, I offer you the chance to do so. Good Housekeeping recommends the T-fal indoor grill for cooking small amounts at a time. The controls are clearly labeled and easy to read and the drip tray is dishwasher safe. The T-fal, priced at $140, has an automatic cooking sensor that can accurately detect the number of items placed on the grill and the thickness of the items. It will automatically adjust temperature and cook times and the lights will indicate the level of readiness (rare to well done).

If you’d like to spend less, for $65, you can get the Hamilton Beach Electric Indoor Searing Grill. It is a best seller on Amazon with 4 1/2 stars. The extra-large drip tray is dishwasher safe and it has an adjustable temperature dial to grill at lower heat for optimal grilling results. Try it with some fresh bread, muenster cheese, tomatoes, salt, oregano, and a drizzle of olive oil and get back to me. Mmmmmm…

Summer’s Nice with Shaved Ice

The Nostalgia Vintage Snow Cone Maker will surely put smiles on everyone in your home, especially when the hot temperatures hit. For just $40, this is quite a deal! This festive item can hold up to twenty 8-ounce cones at one time. It has stainless steel cutting blades, a viewing chamber, and a shelf to hold 2 cones. The cool-looking machine has 2 reusable plastic snow cones and an ice scooper, plus it’s a best seller on Amazon and has earned 4 1/2 stars.

The Zeny Industrial Ice Shaver is a way to up your shaved ice game. For $107, this stainless steel, commercial-quality item can produce 440 pounds of shaved ice per hour, which means you can bring this baby out for parties. Then you can gladden crowds and consequently bring about herd immunity (y’think?)
